My first Mother's Day as a mom involved a baby who didn't want to sleep all night and suddenly required cuddles to stay down (which almost never happens). It involved 12 long, wet, exhausting hours of travel — including over 2 hours stuck on a hot tarmac, way past bedtime, waiting for a lightning storm to pass. Baby TJ did not appreciate that last leg in the slightest bit, and I don't think anyone else on the plane appreciated us 😭. I felt tired, guilty, and just plain awful.
Yet, looking back through the chaos, I'm pretty sure I'm going to remember it as one of my best days ever.
I'm pretty sure I'm going to remember it as one of my best days ever.
It started with an early morning 10K run (not by me, @moopang2 and @bsklee!!!). @soundslikeknock and I wrangled 3 little monkeys, at times joyful, at times grumpy and wild, to the sidelines to wave signs and bang on pots and pans. Then we had lunch with my dad, and @bk1484 flew in for 5 hours just in order to fly back with me and TJ so I wouldn't have to do it alone.
And when I woke up the next morning, I realized I had had the privilege of spending all 24 hours of Mother's Day with family, and most of it wearing and snuggling and playing with TJ. What could possibly be better than that? This may never happen again, and this is my reminder to myself that I'm in the good old days, and I'm going to savor every second.
